Public Health Entrepreneurship
Public health entrepreneurship is the application of innovation and business methodologies to develop products and services that solve public health problems at scale. Public entrepreneurship entails developing a deep understanding of the true needs or pain points of a community and undertaking an iterative cycle of ideating, prototyping and testing potential solutions. In addition, business modeling is integral to this process, as user/community fit must be accompanied by a viable and scalable model of revenue generation and cost-effective operation, including clarity about supply chain logistics and other stakeholder actions. Revenue generation is key, for even not-forprofit organizations must generate resources to achieve sustainability. Public health entrepreneurship requires the expertise of stakeholders in diverse sectors, including public health sciences, business development and management, healthcare and venture investing. By integrating a social determinants of health lens with a market-driven approach, public health entrepreneurship can amplify innovation and create more sustainable and scalable solutions.
